On August 2, 2026, the European Commission's enforcement powers under Chapter V of the EU AI Act (Regulation 2024/1689) will become fully effective for general-purpose AI (GPAI) model providers. Providers of systemic-risk GPAI models are legally obliged to proactively report their models to the AI Office. From this date, the Commission may request information, order model recalls, and mandate compliance measures. The AI Office has been supporting providers, particularly Code of Practice signatories, with compliance. High-risk AI system obligations will also come into effect in August 2026 and August 2027.
