Story
The EU AI Act's provisions for general-purpose artificial intelligence (GPAI) model providers become fully enforceable on August 2, 2026. Since August 2, 2025, GPAI providers have been required to maintain technical documentation and training data summaries using the European Commission's mandatory template. From August 2, 2026, the AI Office gains full enforcement powers under Articles 88-91 of the EU AI Act, including the authority to issue binding information requests to GPAI providers and impose fines of up to 3% of annual worldwide turnover or EUR 15 million, whichever is higher. This marks a significant escalation in the EU's regulatory approach to AI governance. TechRepublic reported the core details. Dataconomy noted additional context. Eversheds Sutherland added corroborating details.
