The EU AI Act's full enforcement against GPAI model providers will become active on August 2, 2026. While GPAI obligations have been in effect since August 2, 2025, the European Commission's supervision and enforcement powers—including the ability to request information, conduct audits, and mandate model recalls—will only begin on this date. Providers of systemic-risk GPAI models must proactively report to the AI Office and comply with the Code of Practice.
