The European Commission's enforcement powers against GPAI model providers under the EU AI Act will come into force on August 2, 2026. While GPAI model provider obligations (Chapter V) have been in effect since August 2, 2025, the Commission will now have full supervision and enforcement powers including the authority to request documentation, conduct evaluations, order risk mitigation measures, restrict market access, and impose fines.
