The EU AI Act entered into force on August 1 2024 under Regulation 2024/1689 and will reach full enforcement on August 2 2026. This marks the deadline by which general-purpose AI GPAI model providers must comply with the acts governance rules and obligations. The European Commission AI Office has published guidelines for GPAI providers outlining technical documentation requirements systemic risk criteria and notification duties. Providers who placed GPAI models on the market before August 2 2025 have until August 2 2027 to comply.
